In the Wylde blog this week we’re redefining ambition. In response to a recent trending article on LinkedIn we’re unpacking the question posed – Is your priority work-life balance over bank balance? The answer could be easy, but there are many layers to this quandary, first off being the ultimate need for financial security to ensure the possibility of a harmonious work-life balance. It’s just not that simple, but the root of all of this is figuring out what defines your ambition.
Traditionally, being ambitious would correlate directly to climbing the career ladder and working your way into higher salaries and positions with more responsibility and authority. The global pandemic has, as we all know, thrown many things up in the air and actually, this reassessment of personal goals and priorities can only be a good thing.
What is your definition of success? The past 18months have given many of us time to reflect on what is truly important to us. Working from home for many, has opened up a whole new world of possibilities with remote working opportunities. We’ve helped many organisations adopt a hybrid-working model that not only makes space for remote and flexible working but thrives on it.
Previously, in a much more fast paced world full of long commutes and monotonous days spent at the same desk in the same stuff office – there simply wasn’t room for other options. Companies didn’t have the firebreak the needed to step back and redefine their objectives or check their activity still aligned with the brand values they originally claimed to. Covid-19 allowed the world of work to be redefined and within that people’s personal goals have changed.
The redefining of ambition to some may have shifted to having more time to themselves or with loved ones, the limitations of travel may have sparked a desire to visit the places they’ve always wanted to go to once they can, others have perhaps simply had time to reflect on how much they want to work or perhaps where they want their work to take time.
Ambition isn’t about possessions, it’s about fulfilment and success. Defining what it is you want to do to make the most out of life, has to be your priority!
