Wylde was approached by SWLEP (Swindon and Wiltshire Local Enterprise Partnership) to assist with the design and implementation of a new cyber facility in Chippenham, the first ‘Business Cyber Centre’ in the UK! Having worked with some of the client team previously Wylde was able to offer our knowledge and expertise in workplace design and interior architecture to assist from initial blocking and test fits of building: which help the client develop the business case and funding application; all the way to the final detailing and delivery.  

The project was awarded funding from the central government grant “Getting Building Fund”, due to the nature of this type of funding more than ever, the team had to ensure everything that was designed and specified could demonstrate best value. We working with Project Managers and Quantity Surveyors, CSM, a local consultancy in Corsham, and the main contractor Emery’s in Bath. Supporting and using local businesses was a key consideration for the project.  

The world of work has changed dramatically, and we have relied on technology and connectivity like never before. As we navigated the pandemic it became clear how this project would be a trailblazer and shining example of how flexible, hybrid working would lead the way for the future of the workplace.  

The building was secured in September 2021, a self-contained 21,000 sqft office building spread over three floors. The team was briefed to complete the entire refurbishment within 6 months, transforming the dated offices spaces into a place that championed all things ‘tech’ with the mantra “turning cyber complexity into cyber confidence”. 

We worked with SWLEP to create a workplace that offers flexibility and state-of-the-art technology to prospective clients and users of the space. The key purpose of the Business Cyber Centre is to welcome businesses of all scales and sizes to utilise the building and progress their cyber abilities and presence in a supported environment, creating a community of empowered tech-savvy organisations. 

We developed a concept that offers a range of high spec facilities including event, conference, meeting, training and co-working spaces.  Keep your eyes peeled for the full case study coming very soon!
