This week in the Wylde blog we’re embracing the change in the seasons and thinking about all things autumnal! Autumn officially begins on 23rd September this year as we begin the transition from summer to winter as the daylight shortens and the temperature begins to drop – it’s time to think about spending more time indoors.
Of course, we’re not wishing away the summer – but there’s something to be said about the beautiful changes in nature inspiring warm and cosy colour palettes. We believe that the best way to welcome the cooler months in, is to ensure you’re prepared!
Let’s face it, we’re set for energy bills like we’ve never seen before so it’s vital to stock up on snuggly textiles before the winter draws in. Layering different fabrics can create a beautiful and cosy aesthetic without cluttering the home – particularly if there is careful consideration to the colour palettes used! Select a colour or a theme for your interior space and stick with it – different shades of the same tone will make for a tasteful and stylish look.
Invest in some thick curtains to keep the cold out and introduce rugs and soft furnishings into the space – from woolly throws, cushion covers and blankets! Natural materials are in – raw timber and wooden furniture are great blank canvases and can be warmed up with faux-fur rugs and chunky knit covers to name a few!
There’s a big retro revival trend this year – so think all things velvet, shagpile and patterned. We love that so many retro print and tiling patterns go hand in hand with an autumnal colour palette with rusty reds, mustard yellows and rich oranges warming up any space. There’s a big lean towards natural materials like rattan or cork, handcrafted ceramics, and macrame wall hangings adding texture and warmth to any space.
Think about lighting – from bold neon brights to soft candles and lanterns – autumn is the perfect time to add a hint of romance to a room with toasty, warm coloured lighting. Remember it’s not about replacing everything in your home for the new season, but reworking elements to produce a desired aesthetic.
