For our first blog in December we’re looking at festive decor! It’s time to embrace the festivities and prepare for Christmas – but that doesn’t necessarily mean turning your home into a tacky tinsel town! There are subtle and sophisticated ways of introducing some seasonal decor into your spaces without it cluttering the room, breaking the bank or looking hideous. Adding some December decor into your schemes doesn’t mean throwing your sense of interior design out of the window. In this week’s Wylde insight we’re looking at how to embrace your existing aesthetics and add that festive sparkle.
First stop – lighting. Your lighting plays a vital role in setting the ambience in your space and therefore it is a crucial part of a Christmas scheme. Fairy lights are a simple staple in adding a touch of magic into a room or outdoor space. We’d suggest stepping away from flashing versions although we’re not totally against a slow twinkle if you must! Gold and yellow tones will warm and cosy up a room adding a sleepy and calming aesthetic, white and blue fairy lights will produce a much colder light but if paired carefully with layered textiles such as woolly rugs, fleeces and faux fur throws they can create the perfect winter wonderland effect!
Next stop – fire! The ultimate winter warmer. Not all of us are fortunate enough to have functioning fireplaces or log burners to see us through the cold months, however, there are still options to add a flickering flame into your home (with care of course!). Large pillar candles, lanterns and oil burners are classic design pieces that add that seasonal something into your space – and yes, you can match your candles to your existing colour scheme!
A festive must – foliage. In this day and age it might not be practical to have a Christmas tree in your home, but there are so many other options available to ensure your December decor is on point. From a wreath to simple vases of holly branches and berries, or carefully placed evergreen spruces around frames and mirrors, dangling mistletoe leaves to the classic red bloom of a potted Poinsettia – adding sprigs of seasonal flora is guaranteed to add a beautiful cheer to your design.
Finally for our design-led December decor inspiration we’d suggest going big with baubles – if you’re going to do it, make a statement! Much like all design schemes, it’s important to carefully consider your colour scheme and stick to it. Less is more and whether you commit to a few gold decorations and some golden fairy lights, or go all out with red berries, baubles and bows – make sure your designs are considered, it shows!
