It’s the first day of October, so we’re opting for orange in our first Wylde insight of the month!

As the vibrant hues of autumn begin to grace the landscape, orange naturally takes centre stage in both nature and design. With its deep connection to the changes in the leaves, orange brings energy, comfort, and character to interior spaces. When thinking about incorporating orange into home decor, it’s easy to picture pumpkins and your typical “fall-foliage” but its impact goes far beyond seasonal touches. Orange, when thoughtfully applied, can transform a space into something unforgettable, making it both bold and inviting. Here at Wylde, we use orange all year round!

The magic of orange lies in its versatility. It’s a dynamic colour that can evoke different moods depending on its shade and intensity. Rich, burnt oranges lend themselves to a cosy and earthy aesthetic, creating a welcoming environment perfect for the living room or dining area. Softer, peachy tones add warmth and softness to bedrooms and bathrooms, creating a subtle, sun-kissed feel. Then, of course, there’s the brighter, more electric side of orange — tangerines and corals that bring energy, joy, and a pop of brightness into a space. These shades are perfect for accent pieces, like pillows or artwork, or even a striking feature wall that sets a vibrant tone for the entire room.

When paired with the right colours, orange can either be a showstopper or a complement to more neutral elements. It works beautifully with cooler tones like grey or navy, balancing out the intensity of orange with calming shades. On the flip side, pairing orange with warm, earthy tones such as browns, creams, and terracottas creates a seamless and natural colour palette that feels timeless. Another striking combination is orange with metallics, especially gold or bronze. This pairing brings a sense of luxury and opulence without feeling over the top — ideal for spaces that aim to impress.

The appeal of orange in interior design also extends to texture and materials. Velvet cushions or upholstered chairs in a deep orange hue add richness and a tactile sense of warmth. Ceramic and terracotta accessories, from vases to light fixtures, capture that natural, rustic feel that’s perfect for autumn and beyond. Even incorporating orange through rugs, throws, or curtains can completely change the mood of a room, offering a touch of colour without overwhelming the senses.

For those hesitant about committing to orange in a big way, it’s worth considering smaller, impactful touches. An orange lamp, a vase filled with marigolds, or even a statement piece of art can introduce the colour into a space without dominating the aesthetic. These pops of orange can also easily transition throughout the seasons, from the vibrancy of summer to the warmth of fall.

As we embrace October, orange is a colour that feels especially resonant. Whether it’s a subtle addition to a neutral room or the star of the show in a bold colour scheme, it has the ability to bring life, warmth, and personality into any space. Orange, in its many forms, is more than just a seasonal shade — it’s a statement of style and creativity that can leave a lasting impression long after autumn fades!
