This week for our last blog before we leave the studio for Christmas we’re talking all things festive but from an interior architecture and design point of view. Our design minds never really switch off – even during the Christmas season! Here’s a glimpse into how we celebrate Christmas through the eyes of an interior architecture designer.

When the festive season rolls around, most people look forward to decking the halls, trimming the tree, and soaking up the festivities. At Wylde, we’re no different – though our creative instincts mean we see Christmas a little differently than most. As specialists in interior architecture and design, we just can’t help but bring a little ‘Wylde magic’ into the way we celebrate.

So, what does Christmas look like for a team of design enthusiasts? This week we’re showing you how our Christmas is infused with creativity, thoughtful design, and a little professional quirk.

First up – the tree, this is where form meets function. For most, decorating the Christmas tree is a family affair – for us, it’s a challenge in spatial balance and aesthetics. Forget just slapping baubles and tinsel on willy-nilly – we’re instinctively measuring negative space, playing with height and symmetry, and colour-matching ornaments to perfection. It’s a “zone of genius” moment where we can’t help but critique and curate! Ever found yourself rearranging ornaments after the kids have gone to bed? Guilty as charged. Minimalists in the team may lean toward clean Scandinavian styles with natural wood and neutral tones, while the maximalists will embrace vibrant eclectic chaos (think Bauhaus meets Whoville!). Either way, the tree is always a design statement.

Next up – Festive Decor, where sustainability meets style. As interior architects, we’re drawn to meaningful, timeless pieces – and Christmas decorations are no exception. We love using natural elements like foliage, pinecones, and wreaths crafted from foraged greenery (cue forest walks, pruning shears in hand). Our ethos of incorporating sustainable design wherever possible extends to Christmas too: swapping disposable décor for beautiful, lasting pieces and handmade touches. An elegant bundle of eucalyptus, holly or mistletoe or a simple tablescape of candles, linen, and ceramics might be more our style than plastic Santas and flashing lights!

It’s all about blending functionality, warmth, and texture to create spaces that feel as good as they look.

This extends to the dining table – where form, function, and festivity meet! We believe the art of hosting at Christmas is all about designing an experience. For us, this means carefully considering lighting, seating flow, and “tablescapes” that draw people in and encourage connection. There’s a certain joy in layering textures: linen napkins, vintage glassware, seasonal florals, and beautifully crafted place settings. Oh, and don’t underestimate the impact of lighting! Soft, warm light is the ultimate game-changer for a cosy festive ambiance. It’s no surprise that architects and designers spend as much time perfecting the table as we do perfecting the meal (and maybe even a bit more)!

A designer’s eye never switches off, even at home. Over the holidays, we take comfort in spaces that are cosy, uncluttered, and designed to encourage relaxation. Think soft throws, plush cushions, and plenty of hygge-inspired corners for a festive cup of tea (or mulled wine). At Wylde, we’ve always believed in creating spaces where people feel good – and Christmas is no exception. Whether that’s rearranging furniture to make room for gatherings or ensuring there’s a quiet nook for a well-earned break, it’s all about balance.

Whether we’re transforming workspaces or dressing the dining table, good design is about creating experiences that spark joy and connection. At Wylde, Christmas is the perfect time to celebrate the things we value most – creativity, meaningful spaces, and time with the people who matter.

Wishing all our clients, collaborators, and friends a joyful, restful, and beautifully designed festive season.
