We made it -it’s 2023 and a brand new Pantone Colour of the Year is here. It’s safe to say the colour Viva Magenta isn’t a quiet one. This tone is loud, bold and confident. We love to be daring with colour schemes and we’ve actually opted for striking magenta hues in several of our own design schemes. Let’s look at what makes this particular colour special for this year.
Selected for it’s power and strength, it seems when it comes to 2023 there is no holding back. Pantone have introduced the swatch Viva Magenta 18-1750 as an optimistic colour full to the brim of energy and vibrance. This beautiful shade is rooted in natural pigments from berries and beetroots – that have been used to create some of the brightest and most vibrant natural dyes throughout human history!
It seems fitting that this year we are leaving uncertainty behind and striding forwards with energetic and expressive movement. Described as a beacon of strength; Viva Magenta is writing a new narrative – which we can all agree that we’re ready for after the uncertainty of the past couple of years battling the lockdowns and social distances measures of the pandemic.
This colour is all about celebration, bravery and joy. We love how this electrifying and audacious colour derives from such an earthy and grounded background – drawing parallels between past and future. Here’s how Pantone Colour Institute’s Executive Director describes it;
“In this age of technology, we look to draw inspiration from nature and what is real. PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta descends from the red family, and is inspired by the red of cochineal, one of the most precious dyes belonging to the natural dye family as well as one of the strongest and brightest the world has known. Rooted in the primordial, PANTONE 18-1750 Viva Magenta reconnects us to original matter. Invoking the forces of nature, it galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.”
We like to live on the Wylde side! – especially when it comes to all things design and colour. We hope to see more interior design schemes using the unexpected. Magenta hues within spaces can be luxurious, empowering, energising and vivacious. An attitude we could all learn from perhaps – with characteristics defined as brave, fearless, experimental and inclusive.
We’ve created a mood board of magenta moments – including some of our very own designs!
