This week we’re talking about remote working and we’re taking it right back to basics. In recent years, the concept of remote work has become increasingly popular, allowing us to carry out our work tasks from the comfort of our own homes or wherever we happen to be! While this offers flexibility and freedom, it also presents unique challenges when it comes to maintaining productivity. Distractions everywhere, and the boundaries between work and personal life can easily become blurred. However, fear not – Wylde are here to help! With the right strategies in place, remote work can be highly productive and rewarding.

First up – make sure you establish a dedicated workspace. Create a designated area in your home where you can work without interruptions. This could be a spare room, a corner of your living room, or even a quiet café. Having a specific space for work helps signal to your brain that it’s time to focus.

Create a routine and stick to it! Maintain a consistent schedule by starting and ending work at the same time each day. This helps regulate your body’s internal clock and fosters a sense of normality. Don’t forget to include breaks in your routine to rest and recharge or get out for some fresh air and exercise!

Set Clear Goals: Define your objectives for the day or week and prioritise tasks accordingly. Break down larger projects into smaller, manageable tasks to avoid feeling overwhelmed. Having a clear roadmap keeps you on track and motivated.

This is the big one – make sure you minimise all the distractions! Identify potential distractions in your environment and take steps to minimise them – and we mean all of them. This might involve turning off notifications on your phone, setting boundaries with family members or housemates, or using productivity tools to block distracting websites. When you’re setting out your goals make sure you make time for focussed, undistracted work as well as collaboration.

Collaboration is important. Stay connected with colleagues – maintaining regular communication with your colleagues through messaging apps, video calls, or virtual coffee breaks is really important. Not only does this foster a sense of camaraderie and prevents feelings of isolation, it’s really important to check in and make sure you’re not wasting time all working on the same thing!

Wylde are big champions for hybrid working and believe remote work offers immense flexibility but requires discipline and effective strategies to maintain productivity. By establishing a dedicated workspace, sticking to a routine, setting clear goals, minimising distractions, utilising time management techniques, embracing technology, taking regular breaks, practising self-care, staying connected with colleagues, and reflecting on your strategies, you can boost productivity and thrive in a remote work environment – when you need to.

Periodically reflect on your productivity strategies and make adjustments as needed. What works for one person may not work for another, so be open to experimenting with different techniques until you find what works best for you.
