This year’s World Architecture Festival is (of course) taking place online this year. The event runs all week and is packed full of talks, panel discussions and virtual networking events bringing the international architecture community together in a time where we’ve all been feeling fairly disconnected!
The World Architecture Festival (known as WAFVirtual this year) is free to attend and has so much on offer! Usually the live event takes place in a place where the global architectural community can gather and network in person, however with the current circumstances the festival is still taking place – determined to celebrate, learn, exchange and be inspired, no matter the challenges. There are over 500 award finalists who will find out if they have won awards for their designs and projects with the week concluding with the announcement of the World Building of the Year prize.
We’ve been taking a look through the event schedule and there is so much to see! Following a live stream discussion yesterday about how being able to win work in a “hypercompetitive, post-Covid world is a skill architects need now more than ever.” we are excited to see what the rest of the week has in store. There are sessions on ‘Nurturing & Developing Talent’ to ‘Insights into Healthy Interiors’ and ‘How Islamic Architecture Shaped Europe’ – and that’s not even including the prize announcements for awards categories such as ‘Water Research’, ‘Architecture Drawing Prize’ and the new Covid category ‘Isolation Transformed’.
We’re particuarly interested in the ‘WAF Around the World’ series. These are video reports on how Covid-19 has affected various cities and the local architectural community around the world. The collection features WAF contributors from 15 different cities, spread across the five days, starting with Sydney and moving west, concluding with San Francisco.
Here’s the link to the event – we’ll see you there!
